General Information

General information about  department :

  • History: Our department was established in 2008 within the Faculty of Engineering of Iğdır University. It accepted its first students in the 2019-2020 Academic Year. The department prepares its students for a competitive working environment with its fully equipped computer laboratories and Mechanical Engineering laboratories.
  • Department Program Outcomes: In addition to providing basic mechanical engineering education, to equip our students with knowledge that provides expertise in certain subjects and that they can use in practice. To raise reliable, successful, innovative, problem-solving and entrepreneurial engineers.
  • Language / Type of Education: The Mechanical Engineering Department continues its education and training activities in the form of formal education and the language of education is Turkish. In addition, international students who successfully complete their Turkish education are accepted to our program.
  • Facilities: Thanks to our computer laboratory and department laboratory, our students have the opportunity to design their projects and conduct experiments related to their departments in order to increase their engineering knowledge and skills. Our department laboratory has CNC lathe, CNC milling machine, tensile compression tester, polishing and cutting devices, optical microscope, welding devices, fume hood, brake pad tester and precision scales.

Double Major/Minor Programs

Double Major Program:​

Students with a GPA of 70 out of 100 will be able to apply to double major programs. Students with a GPA of 70 and above in the double major (DMP) program will have a double diploma when they graduate if they simultaneously take courses from a department other than their own and successfully complete these courses.

Departments where Double Majors can be done: Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Department of Mathematics, Department of Machinery and Metal Technologies (Technical Sciences Vocational School), Department of Electrical and Energy (Technical Sciences Vocational School), Department of Motor Vehicles and Transportation Technologies (Technical Sciences Vocational School).

Note: Although engineering students can do a Double Major and Minor in Technical Sciences Vocational School of Higher Education, Students of Technical Sciences Vocational School of Higher Education cannot apply to Double Major programs in departments.

Students with a GPA of 70 out of 100 will be able to apply to minor programs. Students enrolled in our department are entitled to receive a minor certificate after successfully completing some courses of another department simultaneously. 

Minor Program:

Departments where minors can be done: Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics Department, Machinery and Metal Technologies Department (Technical Sciences Vocational School), Electrical and Energy Department (Technical Sciences Vocational School), Motor Vehicles and Transportation Technologies Department (Technical Sciences Vocational School).

Note: Although engineering students can do a double major and minor in technical sciences vocational school, technical sciences vocational school students cannot apply for a minor program in departments.

Student Exchange Programs

Our students have the right to study at different universities within the scope of Erasmus, Mevlana and Farabi exchange programs. Our students can also do internships in companies operating in contracted countries within the scope of the Erasmus program. Career

Purpose / Objectives of the Department / Program: The Department of Mechanical Engineering has adopted the principle of educating reliable, successful, innovative, problem-solving and entrepreneurial Mechanical Engineers.

Current Status and Future of the Department / Program: The department accepted its first students in the 2019-2020 academic year and continues its education and training activities with 1 Associate Professor, 4 Dr. faculty members and 1 research assistant.

Professions Under the Field: Mechanical Design Engineering, Energy Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Power Plant Engineering, Marine and Ship Engineering, Fluid and Thermal Engineering

Employment Opportunities: Graduates have the opportunity to find employment in the public and private sectors in the fields mentioned above.
